Students Learn Crisis Management Through Mock Drill at GD Goenka Public School

Lucknow: GD Goenka Public School, Lucknow, conducted a comprehensive emergency preparedness mock drill on Thursday to equip students with essential life-saving skills in the face of disasters. The initiative aimed to train students in handling unforeseen emergencies like fires, earthquakes, terrorist threats, and other calamities with calm, responsibility, and presence of mind.

The drill, held on the school premises, was part of the institution’s ongoing commitment to student safety and awareness. The session began with a detailed presentation, educating students on how to act during natural disasters and man-made emergencies. They were taught to remain alert, avoid panic, follow instructions, and evacuate safely—key components to avert stampede-like situations and reduce casualties.

At the sound of the fire alarm, students swiftly followed the evacuation protocol, covering their noses and assembling in pre-assigned safe zones within just seven minutes. Staff members and NCC scouts strategically positioned themselves to guide and assist students throughout the evacuation. Class teachers conducted headcounts to ensure all students were safely evacuated.

A briefing for faculty members had been held prior to the drill, outlining various scenarios and precautionary steps to ensure coordinated efforts during emergencies. Students and staff also learned about basic medical aid, safe evacuation techniques, and how to assist injured individuals.

Chairman of GD Goenka Public School Lucknow,  Sarvesh Goel, and Principal Dr. Prerna Mitra closely supervised the drill. Goel emphasized the importance of such activities, stating, “These mock drills are part of our life skills training. We want our students to be prepared to face any challenge without fear and help others in distress.”

The mock drill culminated with a review session to analyze the evacuation process and identify areas of improvement. The successful execution of the drill not only enhanced students’ disaster response capabilities but also instilled confidence and courage to face real-life emergency situations effectively.

The school reaffirmed its objective of fostering a culture of preparedness, safety, and leadership among students and faculty alike.
