Lucknow/Bareilly: The Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) has arrested a wanted criminal linked to a jewellery shop theft case registered in Hardoi district. The accused, Gangaram, was apprehended near the Satellite Bus Stand in Bareilly on March 12, 2026 at around 2:15 pm.
According to STF officials, Gangaram, son of Pooran and a resident of Milkia village under Nigohi police station in Shahjahanpur district, was wanted in Case No. 05/2025 registered at Kachhauna Police Station in Hardoi under Sections 305, 331(4) and 324(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The arrest was made following intelligence inputs received by the STF regarding the activities of absconding and wanted criminals. Acting on these inputs, an STF team from the Bareilly field unit, working under the supervision of Additional Superintendent of Police Abdul Qadir, launched a search operation.
During surveillance, the STF team—led by Sub-Inspector Ajit Kumar along with other personnel—received information that the wanted accused was moving along the Bareilly–Shahjahanpur highway. Acting swiftly, the team intercepted and arrested him near the Satellite Bus Stand.
During interrogation, Gangaram reportedly confessed that he was part of a gang that travelled across different states using motorcycles and bicycles. The gang conducted reconnaissance of jewellery shops, commercial establishments and houses before committing thefts. He also admitted that on January 3, 2025, he and his associates carried out a theft at a jewellery shop in the Imalipur locality under Kachhauna police station in Hardoi.
Police records reveal that Gangaram has an extensive criminal history with multiple cases registered against him in districts including Aligarh, Rampur and Jaunpur, involving charges of theft, possession of stolen property, criminal conspiracy and violations of the Arms Act.
Further legal action is being taken by the local police in connection with the case.
