STF Arrests ₹50,000 Rewarded Criminal in Sitapur

Lucknow/Sitapur: The Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) has arrested a wanted criminal carrying a reward of ₹50,000 in connection with a serious criminal case registered in Sitapur district.

The accused, identified as Salim, son of Bashir and a resident of Rassolpur Bakaiya village under Sakran police station in Sitapur, was arrested on March 12, 2026 at around 4:30 am near Irapur Mod canal under the jurisdiction of Talgaon Police Station in Sitapur.

According to STF officials, Salim was wanted in Case No. 15/2026 registered at Talgaon police station under Sections 310(2), 111(3) and 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). A reward of ₹50,000 had been announced for information leading to his arrest.

The arrest was made following intelligence inputs received by the STF regarding the activities of absconding and reward-listed criminals. Acting under the supervision of Additional Superintendent of Police Amit Kumar Nagar, an STF team intensified intelligence gathering in the region.

Based on specific information, a team led by Inspector Dilip Tiwari and Sub-Inspector Ashok Kumar Gupta, along with Head Constables Rajesh Maurya, Kaushalendra Pratap Singh, Vijay Verma and Ravi Verma, conducted a raid and apprehended the accused near the canal at Irapur Mod.

During interrogation, Salim revealed that he had been involved in criminal activities for several years and operated a gang that committed robbery, dacoity, theft and cattle-related crimes across several districts of Uttar Pradesh, including Lakhimpur Kheri, Sitapur, Hardoi and Barabanki.

He further admitted that on the night of January 17–18, 2026, he and his associates carried out a dacoity at the house of Ajay Verma in Rasoolpur village under Talgaon police station in Sitapur district. Police said other accused involved in the case have already been arrested.

Officials also confirmed that a history sheet, non-bailable warrants (NBW) and proceedings under Sections 82/83 of the CrPC had earlier been initiated against the accused due to his repeated involvement in serious crimes.

Salim, aged about 40, has a long criminal history with multiple cases registered in several districts, including Sitapur, Lakhimpur Kheri, Hardoi and Barabanki, involving offences such as theft, robbery, murder, illegal arms possession and violations under the NDPS and Arms Acts.

The arrested accused has been handed over to the local police station concerned for further legal proceedings.
