Statewide Camps to Promote UP Tourism Policy 2022; Awareness Drive Underway till May 15

Lucknow: In a major push to boost investments in the tourism sector, Uttar Pradesh’s Tourism Department has launched a comprehensive awareness campaign to disseminate the benefits of the Uttar Pradesh Tourism Policy-2022 among investors. As part of the initiative, district-level camps are being organized across the state till May 15, 2025, to educate stakeholders about various provisions and incentives under the policy.

Tourism and Culture Minister Jaiveer Singh stated that Uttar Pradesh is rapidly emerging as a frontrunner in religious and heritage tourism, with nearly 650 million visitors recorded last year. Destinations like Ayodhya, Kashi, Mathura, and Prayagraj have seen a significant rise in pilgrim footfall, driving an urgent need for enhanced tourism infrastructure.

To meet this demand, the state aims to develop modern way-side amenities—such as well-equipped dhabas, hotels, and motels—along national highways (NH), state highways (SH), and major routes leading to tourist hotspots. The camps will be addressed via video conferencing by Principal Secretary (Tourism and Culture) Mukesh Kumar Meshram, who will directly interact with investors and address their queries.

The Tourism Policy 2022 identifies 33 tourism business categories eligible for support. Under the policy, entrepreneurs can avail up to 30% capital subsidy, in addition to financial incentives, grants, exemptions, and tax relaxations. A dedicated online portal has been created to ensure transparency and ease of access to policy benefits.

Minister Singh emphasized that the policy is being aggressively promoted not just within Uttar Pradesh but also at national and international levels to attract global investment. The awareness camps, which commenced on April 28, will see participation from revenue and GST officials, industry leaders, as well as owners of hotels, motels, and eateries.

Uttar Pradesh currently ranks first in domestic tourism and is working towards achieving a similar position in foreign tourist arrivals. To this end, the government is prioritizing the development of basic infrastructure at all tourist locations, ensuring a seamless and quality experience for travelers.

This campaign, according to the Tourism Department, reflects the state’s commitment to creating a tourism-friendly investment climate, while also enhancing job opportunities and local economic growth through structured development of the tourism ecosystem.
