State-of-the-Art AI-Enabled CT Scan Machine to Be Installed at KGMU Trauma Centre

Lucknow: The King George’s Medical University (KGMU) Trauma Centre is set to receive a major technological upgrade with the installation of an advanced, AI-enabled CT scan machine that promises faster diagnosis, reduced radiation exposure, and enhanced trauma care capabilities. The foundation-laying ceremony for the new facility was performed today by Vice-Chancellor Padma Shri Prof. Sonia Nityanand.

Speaking to the media after the ceremony, Prof. Nityanand said the new technology will be a transformational addition, particularly for critical trauma patients who require immediate imaging. “In trauma care, time is the biggest challenge. This AI-based CT machine will significantly speed up diagnostics, enabling timely treatment during the crucial ‘golden hour’. Given the heavy patient load, this project was made possible through careful planning and institutional support,” she said.

High-Speed Imaging Designed for Trauma Emergencies

Head of the Radiology Department, Dr. Anit Parihar, highlighted the sophisticated features of the new machine.
He noted that its dedicated ‘ED-Trauma Mode’ allows patients to be scanned directly on their stretcher, eliminating delays. “The system’s AI-driven auto-positioning, 3D spine and rib analysis, and 80% lower radiation make it a cutting-edge, patient-friendly solution,” he added.

Chief Medical Superintendent of the Trauma Centre, Dr. Prem Raj Singh, said the centre handles a high volume of emergency cases daily, and the new facility will improve both speed and quality of care.

Trauma Centre Medical Superintendent, Dr. Amiya Agrawal, echoed the sentiment, saying the CT upgrade will raise both accuracy and efficiency in critical care scenarios.

Boost to Surgical Precision and Emergency Decision-Making

Neurosurgery Professor Dr. Somil Jaiswal said the AI-assisted imaging will be particularly valuable in evaluating spinal and head injuries, enabling faster and more precise surgical decisions.

Media in-charge and General Surgery Professor Dr. K.K. Singh said the new technology will further strengthen KGMU’s position among the country’s leading trauma-care institutions.

Geriatric Mental Health Department Head Dr. Shrikant Srivastava called the development a vital step toward comprehensive service enhancement across the hospital.

Critical Care Medicine Head Dr. Avinash Agrawal emphasised the importance of swift decision-making for severely injured patients. “Every second matters. This machine will accelerate the diagnostic process tremendously,” he said.

PMR Department Head Dr. Anil Gupta added that improved imaging will also help plan more effective rehabilitation strategies for trauma survivors.

Officials from the Civil Department assured that construction and installation would be completed within the stipulated timeline.

Key Features of the New CT Scan Facility

  • AI-driven auto-positioning system

  • Direct stretcher-to-scan capability

  • Automatic detection of spine and ribs

  • 80% lower radiation exposure

  • Faster, high-resolution imaging

With this advanced AI-enabled CT machine, the KGMU Trauma Centre is poised to deliver world-class emergency care, offering patients across Uttar Pradesh faster, safer, and more accurate diagnostic support in critical moments.
