Srinagar: Srinagar’s tulip garden, Asia’s largest tulip garden  has witnessed an unprecedented influx of tourists this season, welcoming a record-breaking 8.25 lakh visitors since its opening on March 26. With just two days remaining before its seasonal closure on April 24, officials anticipate the total number of visitors will soar past the 9 lakh mark.

Srinagar’s tulip garden, a sprawling 450-kanal garden, nestled in the foothills of the Zabarwan range and along the picturesque Dal Lake, boasts a breathtaking floral carpet of 1.7 million tulips in 74 diverse varieties and colors, including two new additions this year.

According to Asif Ahmad, Assistant Floriculture Officer of Srinagar’s tulip garden, the overwhelming response from tourists, both domestic and international, has been remarkable. “Since it opened on March 26, we have recorded an all-time high of 8.25 lakh visitors,” Ahmad stated. He further highlighted the presence of approximately 3,000 international tourists who have been captivated by the vibrant display of tulips.

The garden’s unique planting strategy, incorporating early, mid, and late tulip varieties, ensures a continuous bloom throughout its month-long opening, offering visitors a kaleidoscope of colors and types at any given time.

The Tulip Garden witnessed a peak single-day footfall on the first Sunday after Eid-ul-Fitr, drawing an astounding 81,452 visitors. This surge in numbers underscores the garden’s immense popularity and its ability to create a “sense of paradise” with its mesmerizing floral display.

The current figures represent a significant increase compared to previous years, with 4.45 lakh visitors in 2024, 3.70 lakh in 2023, and 3.60 lakh in 2022.

Established in 2007 by the then-Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Ghulam Nabi Azad, the Tulip Garden has steadily grown into a premier tourist attraction in the Valley, heralding the arrival of spring and captivating visitors with its unparalleled beauty. With two days still remaining, the anticipation is high for the garden to reach the coveted 9 lakh visitor milestone.
