‘Srijan’ Workshops Launched Across Uttar Pradesh to Preserve Folk Arts

“It is our collective responsibility to safeguard fading traditional art forms and pass them on to the new generation” – Jaiveer Singh

Lucknow : The Uttar Pradesh Institute of Folk Art and Tribal Culture, under the state’s Department of Culture, has launched a series of summer workshops titled ‘Srijan’ across the state. The initiative aims to revive traditional, endangered, and folk art forms while fostering creativity and cultural awareness among youth.

These workshops, being held from April 15 to 25, feature a diverse range of traditional art practices such as Bundeli Chiteri painting, Dedhiya dance, and artwork made from moonj grass and wheat stalks. The initiative is envisioned as a large-scale cultural revival movement across districts of Uttar Pradesh.

State Minister for Tourism and Culture, Mr. Jaiveer Singh, shared that the first phase of the workshops has commenced in Bijnor, Barabanki, and Sant Kabir Nagar.

In Bijnor, a seven-day painting workshop is being held at the Vardhaman College campus. The program is open to students, budding artists, and art enthusiasts, offering training in both traditional and contemporary styles of painting.

In Barabanki, an Awadhi folk song workshop is underway in collaboration with PM Shri Government Girls Inter College. Running daily from 12 noon to 3 PM, this workshop involves students, local artists, and folk culture experts in an effort to preserve the lyrical heritage of the region.

Meanwhile, in Sant Kabir Nagar, a ten-day workshop on folk singing has also begun today, drawing enthusiastic participation from local youth.

“The level of excitement shown by participants on the very first day of the workshops is truly inspiring,” said Mr. Singh. “It is evident that the younger generation is eager to connect with and conserve their cultural roots. This is our greatest achievement.”

He also urged schools and colleges across the state to collaborate with the Institute if they wish to host such workshops. Interested institutions can send applications to the Institute’s office located at Jawahar Bhawan, 9th Floor, Ashok Marg, Lucknow. All workshops under this initiative are being conducted free of charge.
