Lucknow: Literacy and skill development programmes are being conducted in the state for prison reforms and welfare of prisoners. Prisons are being modernised with mobile phone jammers, CCTV surveillance units, metal detection systems, wireless sets, PCOs, e-prisons, RO plants, modernisation of kitchens, super video walls etc. The above was said by the state’s Prison Minister Dara Singh Chauhan in a departmental review meeting with jail superintendents of all districts in the auditorium of ACSTi Lucknow.
Minister Chauhan said that under the leadership of the Chief Minister, the state is moving towards a $1 trillion economy. Compliance of the ‘One Jail-One Product’ scheme should be ensured in all prisons, so that the Prison Department can help the state reach the target of $1 trillion. He said that requisitions should be sent on time to fill the vacancies in the Prison Department. Along with this, promotion proceedings should be ensured on time. He said that the facilities provided under the prison manual should be made available to the prisoners for prison reforms. Under the Swachhata Abhiyan, the prisons should be kept clean and saplings should also be planted at appropriate places in the prisons. He stressed on developing the prisons as ideal prisons.
Many innovations should be started in the prisons and the prisons should be updated by establishing coordination with other departments. He said that the mercy petitions received for the prisoners in the prisons should be disposed of in a timely manner. The system in the prisons should be simplified and strengthened. Along with this, the security system of the prisons should be strengthened.
State Minister of State for Prisons, Suresh Rahi said that the medical system in the prisons should be kept better, so that the prisoners living there do not have health related problems. He said that the basic facilities of the prisoners in the prisons should be taken care of. Attention should be paid to the physical and mental development of the prisoners.
Principal Secretary Prisons Rajesh Singh told the Minister in the meeting that health ATMs are being set up in prisons. Along with this, washing machines are also being installed in prisons in view of cleanliness. He informed that construction work of new prisons is being done, in which construction work of prisons is going on in Mahoba, Amethi, Bareilly.
During this, Director General of Police/Inspector General of Prisons PV Ram Shastri presented information about the outline and activities of the department. Additional Inspector General of Prisons Mrs. Chitralekha Singh, Deputy Inspector General of Prisons Mr. RN Pandey and all the regional Deputy Inspector General of Prisons, Senior Superintendents and Superintendents of Prisons participated in the meeting.
