Mumbai: A host of renowned sports personalities from cricket, tennis and golf came together at the opening ceremony of the DP World Celebrity Golf Event, a charity initiative aimed at raising awareness for the CHAMPS Foundation founded by cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar.
The star-studded event witnessed the presence of several former Indian cricketers including Yuvraj Singh, Murali Vijay, Murali Kartik, Subramaniam Badrinath, Venkatesh Prasad and Gundappa Viswanath. They were joined by former England cricket captains Eoin Morgan and Michael Vaughan, as well as tennis legend Leander Paes.
Prominent golfers Gaurav Ghei and Ridhima Dilawari also participated in the opening ceremony, where the sports icons gathered for a group photograph to mark the beginning of the charity event.
During the ceremonial tee-off, Yuvraj Singh, Leander Paes, Gaurav Ghei and Ridhima Dilawari officially launched the golf event, symbolizing the spirit of sportsmanship and philanthropy behind the initiative.

The event aims to highlight the work of the CHAMPS Foundation, which supports former international athletes who may be facing financial or medical difficulties after their playing careers. Through initiatives like the celebrity golf tournament, the foundation seeks to generate awareness and support for sports veterans who have contributed to the country’s sporting legacy.
