Shiroda (Goa): Emphasising the role of spirituality in healthcare, researcher Sean Clarke stated that overcoming any illness requires not only physical treatment but also spiritual remedies. He was speaking at a guest lecture on “The Role of Spirituality in Healing” organized at Gomantak Ayurveda Mahavidyalaya and Research Centre in Shiroda.
The session, co-addressed by Shweta Clarke, was attended by Principal Dr Nilesh Korde and Dr Sneha Bhagwat, along with nearly 100 postgraduate students and faculty members of Ayurveda.
Presenting their findings, researchers from Maharshi Adhyatma Vishwavidyalaya demonstrated results based on modern aura and energy scanning techniques. They noted that over the past 25–30 years, the importance of spirituality in medical science has grown significantly, with spiritual-based curricula now included in a majority of medical colleges globally.
According to the speakers, traditional Ayurveda attributes diseases to factors such as imbalance of bodily elements and karmic influences. They highlighted that increasing positive traits and reducing negative tendencies are essential for achieving holistic health.

The research team further claimed that a significant proportion of life’s problems may have a spiritual dimension. They also discussed the potential role of negative energies in aggravating health conditions and affecting diagnosis, suggesting that experienced practitioners can identify such factors and recommend supportive measures.
The speakers also referred to ancestral factors and lifestyle issues as possible contributors to certain chronic conditions. They emphasised that along with conventional treatment, practices such as meditation, self-discipline, and a balanced lifestyle can support overall well-being.
Concluding the session, the researchers suggested simple practices like regular prayer, mindfulness, and healthy dietary habits as complementary approaches to improve health outcomes, while reiterating the importance of integrating spiritual awareness with modern medical care.
