Special on Birth Anniversary of Former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee

Harbhaj Hospital Preserves the Living Memories of Atal Ji

Lucknow: On December 25, the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Shri Harbhaj Ram Kripa Devi Trust Hospital once again stands out as a living symbol of his values and compassion. For several years, the hospital has been commemorating Atal Ji’s birth anniversary by organising free eye check-up, cataract surgery and spectacle distribution camps, carrying forward his vision of service to humanity.

The hospital continues to preserve Atal Ji’s memories as a cherished legacy. In 1993, when Atal Bihari Vajpayee visited Harbhaj Hospital, he wrote in the visitor’s book:
“Shri Harbhaj Ram Kripa Devi Trust Hospital is doing solid work in public service. I am very pleased to see the organisation of cataract operation camps. Such camps should continue so that blindness can be defeated.”
These words remain a guiding inspiration for the institution even today.

Recalling his personal association with Atal Ji, former MLA and hospital chairman Vidyasagar Gupta shared that after becoming a Member of Parliament in 1991, Atal Ji would often tour his parliamentary constituency in Lucknow using Gupta’s car whenever he visited the city. “This continued until before he became Prime Minister in 1996. My association with Atal Ji dates back to 1971,” he said.

Vice Chairman Ramesh Agrawal fondly remembered that during cataract surgery camps, patients were admitted to the hospital for nearly a week. “During that time, Atal Ji would personally visit the hospital and distribute fruits to patients with his own hands,” he recalled, highlighting the former Prime Minister’s warmth and humility.

Hospital Secretary Amit Gupta informed that Harbhaj Hospital has completed 65 years of service and every year Atal Ji’s birth anniversary is celebrated with great enthusiasm. Free eye examination and spectacle distribution camps are an integral part of the observance. This year, due to the Prime Minister’s official programme on December 25, the camp will be organised on December 26. The event will be graced by Social Welfare Minister Asim Arun as the chief guest, while Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Seth will be present as a distinguished guest.

Through its continued commitment to healthcare and service, Harbhaj Hospital not only honours the memory of Atal Bihari Vajpayee but also keeps alive his enduring message of compassion, public service and social responsibility.
