Sony SAB Artists Celebrate World Theatre Day, Pay Tribute to Their Theatre Roots

Mumbai: On the occasion of World Theatre Day, celebrated annually on March 27, artists from Sony SAB reflected on their theatre journeys and paid tribute to the stage that shaped their craft.

Actors including Karuna Pandey, Varun Badola, Utkarsha Naik, Rajat Verma, Rishi Saxena, Diksha Joshi and Neha SK Mehta shared how their experiences in theatre continue to influence their on-screen performances.

Highlighting the importance of live storytelling, the actors emphasized how theatre instilled discipline, spontaneity, and a deep connection with audiences. From understanding the nuances of performance to embracing the unpredictability of acting without retakes, their stage experiences remain integral to their craft.

Karuna Pandey, who plays the lead in Pushpa Impossible, said theatre has always been the foundation of her acting journey. She credited her family for encouraging her to pursue performance arts and noted that theatre taught her patience, discipline, and the ability to fully live a character without retakes.

Varun Badola, seen as Suhas Divekar in Itti Si Khushi, described theatre as the base of his career, shaping his understanding of storytelling and audience engagement. He also acknowledged the influence of his father, Vishwa Mohan Badola, in nurturing his passion for the craft.

Utkarsha Naik shared that theatre holds a special place in her heart, not only as a performer but also as someone who mentors aspiring artists. She highlighted how theatre builds confidence, creativity, and a sense of community.

Diksha Joshi noted that theatre deeply shaped her storytelling approach, teaching her presence and emotional authenticity. She described it as a medium that values connection over perfection.

Rajat Verma reflected on his continued connection with theatre, calling it the purest form of performance driven by passion and constant learning.

Neha SK Mehta spoke about how her early training in Bharatanatyam and theatre laid the foundation for her artistic journey, emphasizing discipline and honest expression.

Rishi Saxena added that even limited theatre experience helped him develop strong fundamentals in timing and storytelling, which continue to guide his work in television.

The actors encouraged audiences to celebrate theatre as a powerful and enduring art form that continues to inspire performers across mediums.
