Mumbai: Actor Sonu Sood, who was associated with the movie Laapataa Ladies, directed by Kiran Rao, has expressed his thoughts following the film’s exclusion from the official Oscar shortlist for the Best International Feature Film category. Despite the film being selected as India’s official entry for the 97th Academy Awards, it did not make the Academy’s official shortlist, which had raised much anticipation.
During a press conference in New Delhi, Sood took a positive stance on the film’s journey, emphasizing that the true prize for any movie lies in the love and admiration of its audience. He stressed that winning the hearts of the viewers is more important than any award, including the Oscars. “The real Oscar is the love of the audience,” Sood remarked, showcasing his belief in the power of public support over formal recognition.
Sood also reflected on his career and the importance of connecting with people. He fondly remembered how he helped Bollywood producers connect with music director Yo Yo Honey Singh in the early stages of Singh’s career. Singh, now a well-established name, expressed his gratitude to Sood for believing in him and his talent.
Additionally, Sood, who is making his directorial debut with the film Fate, shared his excitement about working with Singh on the song “Hitman”. The collaboration was described as a significant step in his own creative journey.
Despite the disappointment of Laapataa Ladies not making the Oscar shortlist, Sood and the film’s producers remain proud of the film’s impact and the continued affection it receives from audiences. The actor’s humanitarian efforts and his commitment to supporting others have also earned him admiration both within and outside the film industry.
