Sonakshi Sinha Reflects on ‘Lootera’: “Many Advised Me Not to Do It, But I Followed My Instincts”

The actress recalls her journey from ‘Dabangg’ to one of her most cherished performances as she prepares for the release of ‘Jatadhara’

Mumbai: Bollywood actress Sonakshi Sinha, who is gearing up for her upcoming mythological-supernatural thriller “Jatadhara,” recently revisited one of the most defining moments of her career — her performance in Vikramaditya Motwane’s 2013 classic “Lootera.”

Speaking to IANS, Sonakshi revealed that “Lootera” remains one of her proudest works, even twelve years after its release. “It just amazes me,” she said. “The first thing people say when they meet me is, ‘We loved you in Lootera.’ It’s incredible that a film can still have that kind of emotional impact after so many years.”

The actress recalled how the decision to take on “Lootera” wasn’t an easy one at the time. Coming off the massive success of ‘Dabangg,’ many around her advised against doing the film, warning that its artistic tone might not perform well commercially.

“This was probably the third or fourth movie I had signed then, and many people said, ‘Don’t do this film,’” she recounted. “But I saw myself as Paakhi. I followed my instincts and decided, ‘Whatever happens, I will do this film.’ I’m so glad I did — I still receive so much love for that one role.”

Producer Prerna Arora, speaking about Sonakshi’s transformation for Jatadhara, said the actress underwent over three months of research and design preparation for her role as Dhan Pisachini, a character described as a haunting mix of beauty, myth, and cosmic power.

Directed by Venkat Kalyan and Abhishek Jaiswal, Jatadhara also stars Sudheer Babu and Shilpa Shirodkar. The story explores a dark world of greed, rituals, and redemption, centered around an ancient treasure guarded by demonic forces.

Produced by Umesh KR Bansal, Prerna Arora, Aruna Agarwal, and Shivin Narang of Zed Studios, with Akshay Kejriwal and Kussum Arora as co-producers, Jatadhara is set for a bilingual release in Hindi and Telugu on November 7, 2025.

With Jatadhara poised to present Sonakshi in a never-seen-before avatar, fans are eager to see how the actress once again turns instinct into art.
