Lucknow: In a major push towards modernizing early childhood education, the Uttar Pradesh government has installed smart televisions in more than 16,000 Anganwadi centres across the state. The initiative aims to introduce digital learning tools into the early education system and create a more engaging and interactive environment for young children.
The move is part of the state government’s broader effort to upgrade Anganwadi centres into modern, play-school-like learning spaces. Each smart TV installation has cost approximately ₹25,000, and the project is being implemented under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
Digital Learning for Early Education
With the introduction of smart TVs, the traditional teaching methods at Anganwadi centres are gradually being replaced by digital and audio-visual learning techniques. Children are now exposed to educational content such as stories, puzzles, cartoons, and animated lessons, making the learning process more interactive and enjoyable.
Through these digital tools, young learners are able to grasp basic literacy and numeracy concepts such as alphabet recognition, counting, and identification of colours in a playful and engaging manner.
Making Anganwadi Centres Child-Friendly
Officials say the objective of the initiative is to provide a stimulating educational environment that encourages curiosity and creativity among children. By incorporating digital content, the government hopes to improve the overall quality of early childhood education in the state.

Education experts believe that the use of digital media can significantly enhance learning outcomes at the foundational stage. Interactive visuals and storytelling methods help children develop better language skills, communication abilities, and cognitive understanding.
Boost to Foundational Learning
The integration of smart TVs into Anganwadi centres is also expected to support the broader goal of strengthening foundational learning among children in rural and semi-urban areas. By making lessons more engaging, the initiative aims to increase children’s interest in learning from an early age.
Officials say that as the program expands, more Anganwadi centres across Uttar Pradesh will continue to adopt technology-driven teaching methods, ensuring that children receive quality early education aligned with modern learning practices.
