LUCKNOW | In a landmark move for the Department of Vocational Education, Skill Development, and Entrepreneurship, the first-ever State-Level Sports Competition 2025-26 was inaugurated today at the K.D. Singh Babu Stadium. The event was officially launched by the Minister of State (Independent Charge), Shri Kapil Dev Aggarwal, with a traditional ribbon-cutting ceremony, followed by a march-past salute and the lighting of the ceremonial lamp.
Focus on Holistic Growth
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Minister Aggarwal emphasized that the department’s vision extends beyond mere technical certification. Under the guidance of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the goal is to integrate sports into the ITI curriculum to foster physical fitness, mental resilience, and self-confidence among the youth.
“Sports are not just about fitness; they are a medium to instill discipline, competitive spirit, and willpower. By bringing sports to the vocational education sector, we are ensuring the comprehensive development of our students,” the Minister remarked.
Empowering Young Athletes
Addressing the 579 participants, the Minister specially motivated the female athletes, urging them to break barriers with confidence. He noted that the joy and positive energy derived from sports play a crucial role in character building and national progress.
The Road to the State Finals
Principal Secretary Dr. Hariom highlighted that this is the first time such a large-scale sports event has been organized specifically for vocational students. The finalists were selected through rigorous inter-district and divisional-level competitions.

Total Participants: 579 (308 Men and 271 Women).

Representation: Top talent from Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) across Uttar Pradesh.
Event Schedule and Disciplines
Director of Training, Abhishek Singh, outlined the three-day schedule, noting that comprehensive arrangements for accommodation, food, and transport have been made for all athletes.

The competition features 13 distinct sports categories:

Track Events: 100m, 200m, 400m sprints, and Relay races.

Field Events: Long Jump, High Jump, and Shot Put.

Team Sports: Kabaddi, Volleyball, Tug of War, and Kho-Kho.

Racket Sports: Badminton.
As per the schedule, women’s competitions will dominate the first day, followed by men’s events on February 21, with the grand finale and remaining matches concluding on February 22.
The inaugural ceremony saw the presence of several high-ranking officials, including Additional Directors Rajendra Prasad and Manpal Singh, Technical Director D.K. Singh, and Joint Directors Yogendra Singh and Anil Verma, alongside instructors, staff, and a large number of cheering students.
