Edgbaston — India’s Test captain Shubman Gill lauded his team’s all-round performance after securing a record-breaking victory in the second Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, marking India’s first-ever Test win at Edgbaston. Speaking on JioHotstar’s Match Centre Live, Gill reflected on the milestone win and India’s resurgence in the series.
“It’s my first Test win as captain and to achieve it at a ground where India had never won makes it incredibly special,” said Gill. “There were questions about whether we could take 20 wickets or score 400+ consistently. This match proves we can. Even without Jasprit Bumrah, the bowlers stepped up and showed they can deliver in any conditions.”
India’s bowling unit dominated throughout the match, with the fast bowlers accounting for the majority of the wickets. Gill emphasized that depth in bowling, particularly pace, was India’s biggest asset in this game.
“When your fast bowlers take 16–17 wickets, captaincy becomes a lot easier,” he noted. “Bumrah wasn’t playing, yet our pacers rose to the challenge.”
JioHotstar expert Varun Aaron applauded the team’s bold and aggressive approach:
“India has shown they can match England’s brand of aggressive cricket and beat them at their own game. This Test saw Shubman Gill become the first player to score 200+ and 150+ in the same match, India’s first-ever win at Edgbaston, and the first time we crossed 1,000 team runs in a Test. A series of firsts.”
Aaron praised Gill’s calm leadership and commitment to team culture:

“He’s composed, mature, and backs his players. His trust in Prasidh Krishna and Siraj shows he values effort, not just numbers. That creates a winning environment.”
Jonathan Trott, former England cricketer and another expert on the panel, focused on Gill’s leadership potential:
“Shubman has the mindset of a long-term captain. He listens, he learns. But going forward, he’ll need to take more charge on the field, especially as leaders like KL Rahul support him. The signs are promising, though — India looks settled, and with Bumrah returning for the next game, they’ll be even stronger.”
Trott also commented on the bowling comparison between India and England:
“Bumrah returning adds depth to an already strong Indian unit. Archer, on the other hand, is still finding his rhythm. Right now, India’s attack looks better-rounded and better supported.”
With the series now level at 1–1, India will head into the next Test with renewed momentum, bolstered by a captain who’s finding his footing fast — with the bat and with leadership.
