Shamli – In a significant operation, Shamli police shot dead Nafees, a wanted criminal with a reward of one lakh rupees, during a late-night encounter in the forests of Bhavhisa village, under the Kandhla police station area. Intelligence inputs had revealed that Nafees, along with his accomplices, was planning a major criminal act. Acting on this information, police set up a cordon and launched a search operation in the area. The gang opened fire, prompting police retaliation, during which Nafees was fatally injured on the spot.
A resident of Mohalla Khel in Kandhla town, Nafees had over 36 criminal cases registered against him, including murder, robbery, extortion, and circulation of counterfeit currency. Police recovered a pistol and a motorcycle from the encounter site. His accomplices managed to escape under the cover of darkness, prompting police to launch an intensive manhunt with multiple teams deployed across the district.

Shamli’s Superintendent of Police stated that this action would significantly curb crime in the region and enhance public safety. Special teams are actively pursuing the remaining fugitives, with search operations extending into neighboring districts. Nafees had previously served multiple jail terms and had resumed criminal activities soon after being released on bail. Following the encounter, SP N.P. Singh visited the site personally to oversee the area and the ongoing operations.
