SGPGIMS Lucknow Celebrates Sixth Alumni Day with Sports and Fellowship

Lucknow: Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS), Lucknow celebrated its sixth Alumni Day on December 13, 2025, marking the occasion with a blend of academic interaction, camaraderie and sporting spirit. The day-long programme brought together distinguished alumni, faculty members and current administrators of the institute.

The celebrations began at 9 am with departmental visits by alumni, offering them an opportunity to reconnect with their respective departments and interact with faculty and students. This was followed at 10 am by a friendly yet competitive tennis-ball cricket match among alumni at the PGI Cricket Ground.

The match featured two teams—Director Eleven and Dean Eleven—led respectively by SGPGIMS Director Dr R.K. Dheeman and Dean Dr Shaleen Kumar. Both teams included several esteemed faculty members, including women faculty such as Dr Vidushi, Dr Akanksha Verma, Dr Bhanupriya and Dr Akanksha Agarwal, alongside other senior members of the institute.

Several prominent alumni from other medical institutions and hospitals also participated in the match, including Dr Ajay Kumar Patwa from King George’s Medical University (KGMU), endocrinologist Dr Arun Pandey from Lucknow, Dr Kamlesh Bhaisora from Medanta Hospital, Lucknow, and Dr Prateek Mehrotra from Max Hospital, Lucknow.

After winning the toss, Director Eleven chose to bat first and posted a total of 118 runs in 15 overs. In response, Dean Eleven put up a strong performance and chased down the target within 11 overs, securing a five-wicket victory.

At the conclusion of the match, prizes were distributed to recognise outstanding performances. Dr Rajeev Kumar Bharti was awarded Best Batsman, Dr Anup Kumar received the Best Bowler award, and Colonel J.S. Ghuman was named Best Fielder. Dr Prateek Mehrotra was honoured as the Best Alumni Player. Dr Kuntal K. Das received an award for hitting the maximum number of fours, while Dr Arun Pandey was recognised for hitting the maximum number of sixes. The Man of the Match award was presented to Dr Sanchit Rustagi.

The awards were presented by Dr Shaleen Kumar, Dr Ankur Bhatnagar, Colonel Varun Vajpayee and Dr Preeti Dabadgaon. The Alumni Day celebrations reinforced the strong bond between SGPGIMS and its alumni, highlighting the institute’s emphasis on lifelong association, teamwork and shared professional values.
