SGPGIMS Doctors Successfully Remove Massive Brain Tumour, Give New Lease of Life to Bihar Youth

Lucknow: Doctors at Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS), Lucknow, have successfully performed a highly complex surgery to remove a massive brain tumour from a 23-year-old youth from Saran district, Bihar, restoring his health and confidence.

The patient, Nitesh Kumar, was suffering from a giant tumour that had developed in his brain and gradually penetrated the skull, becoming visibly prominent on his forehead. The condition also caused abnormal bulging of his eyes, leading to severe physical disfigurement and social isolation, as he hesitated to step out in public.

Given the critical nature of the case, Nitesh was brought to SGPGIMS for advanced treatment. Prior to surgery, the tumour’s blood supply was significantly reduced through a neuro-interventional procedure carried out by Dr. Vivek and Dr. Suryakant, minimising the risk of excessive bleeding during the operation.

The intricate surgery was then performed by a multidisciplinary team led by Prof. Arun Kumar Srivastava, Prof. Kuntal Kanti Das, and Dr. Swarjeet from the Department of Neurosurgery. The team also included Sister Vandana, Head and Neck Surgeon Prof. Amit Kesari, Plastic Surgeon Dr. Anupama, and the anaesthesia team comprising Dr. Sumit, Dr. Sapna, and Dr. Nidhi.

Using extremely precise and advanced surgical techniques, the doctors successfully removed the tumour, which weighed nearly half a kilogram. Medical experts described the procedure as exceptionally challenging and rare, noting that safely removing such a large tumour is a remarkable achievement in the field of medical science.

Following the successful surgery, Nitesh has made a complete recovery and is now healthy. The operation has given him a renewed opportunity to live a normal and confident life as an active member of society.

Doctors stated that the case highlights SGPGIMS’s high level of medical expertise and teamwork. The patient and his family expressed deep gratitude to the doctors and medical staff for their life-changing efforts. The institute’s administration also praised the successful teamwork, calling the surgery an inspiring example for the medical fraternity.

Experts emphasised that such complex surgeries reaffirm that with timely treatment and specialised care, even the most challenging medical conditions can be successfully managed, giving patients a new direction in life.
