SGPGI Wins Chancellor Cup Cricket Tournament 2026

Lucknow: The team of Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGI) emerged as the champion of the Chancellor Cup Cricket Tournament 2026, defeating Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti Language University by four wickets in the final match.

The tournament was organized by Raj Bhavan (Jan Bhavan) under the inspiration of the Governor and Chancellor of Uttar Pradesh universities, Anandiben Patel. During the prize distribution ceremony, the Governor encouraged students and youth to actively participate in sports alongside their professional pursuits. She emphasized that sports not only promote physical fitness but also play a vital role in character building and urged parents to encourage children to spend time on playgrounds.

In the final match, SGPGI won the toss and opted to field first. Batting first, Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti Language University had a poor start, losing three key wickets for just 20 runs. However, captain Shibi Haider steadied the innings with a determined knock of 38 runs, helping the team post a total of 80 runs. For SGPGI, Himanshu and Pawan claimed three wickets each.

Chasing the target, SGPGI also faced early setbacks, losing wickets quickly. Nevertheless, crucial contributions from Praveen and Pawan, who scored 25 runs each, guided the team to victory in the 10th over with six wickets down.

Kundan was named Man of the Match, Player of the Series, and Best Batsman for his outstanding performance throughout the tournament.

Following the final, a friendly match was also played between the Chancellor Cup winners SGPGI and the Raj Bhavan team.

During the event, officials including OSD Ashok Desai, OSD Sudhir M. Bobde, OSD Dr. Pankaj L. Jani, J. P. Pandey, Vice-Chancellor of Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam Technical University, and Finance Officer Keshav Singh were present to encourage the players. The tournament matches were managed by PSO Jamal Siddiqui.
