SGPGI Shines at IAPSCON 2025, Faculty and Residents Win Top National Honours

Lucknow | The Department of Pediatric Surgery at SGPGI has once again brought laurels to the institution by delivering an outstanding performance at IAPSCON 2025, the prestigious annual conference of the Indian Association of Pediatric Surgeons. The department’s faculty members, senior residents, and young researchers earned several top-tier awards for their scientific papers, clinical innovations, and academic presentations.

Residents Sweep Major Categories

Second-year MCh resident Dr. Pooja Prajapati emerged as one of the top achievers of the conference.
She secured:

  • First Prize in the KK Sharma Award category for her paper titled “Roux-Limb Obstruction After Choledochal Cyst Excision and Roux-en-Y Hepaticojejunostomy.”

  • Second Prize in the Gastrointestinal Category for her presentation on “Early GI Bleed Post-Kasai Portoenterostomy.”

Third-year MCh resident Dr. Tarun Kumar clinched the First Prize in the Minimally Invasive Surgery category for his innovative work on “No Common Bile Duct: ICG-Assisted Laparoscopic Hepaticojejunostomy.”
He also presented another important scientific paper on PTCC in Biliary Atresia.

Second-year MCh resident Dr. Rahul Goyal presented two key research works:

  • Laparoscopic Management of a Hugely Dilated Malrotated Renal Pelvis

  • Side-to-Side Spleno-Renal (Mitra) Shunt in EHPVO
    Both presentations were appreciated for their clinical relevance and surgical precision.

Faculty Deliver High-Impact Academic Sessions

Adding to the department’s achievements, senior faculty members delivered several expert lectures and advanced surgical presentations.

  • Prof. Dr. Basant Kumar, Head of Department, delivered an expert talk on “Unconventional Alternative Shunts in Pediatric EHPVO – Rescue Surgery and Outcomes.”

  • Prof. Dr. Ankur Mandelia received the First Prize for his presentation in the innovations category. He presented high-level sessions on:

  • Mesorex Bypass for EHPVO in Children
  • Robotic Choledochal Cyst Excision
  • SPEN and Rare Pancreatic Tumors
  • Advanced Innovations in Minimally Invasive GI & HPB Surgery
  • Prof. Dr. Vijay Dutt Upadhyay delivered a detailed lecture on “Spleno-Renal Shunt.”

Residents Attribute Success to Mentorship
