SGPGI Receives ₹10 Crore Grant for Pediatric ICU under CM’s Leadership

SBI extends major support for advanced pediatric cardiac care

Lucknow: In a significant step toward strengthening advanced healthcare facilities in Uttar Pradesh, Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS), Lucknow, received a financial boost on Monday.

During a ceremony held at the CM’s residence under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the State Bank of India (SBI) presented a cheque of ₹10 crore for the development of a state-of-the-art Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (PICU) in the CVTS department of SGPGI.

The event was graced by Deputy CM Brajesh Pathak, Minister of State for Medical Education Mayankeshwar Sharan Singh, and Principal Secretary (Health) Parth Sarathi Sen Sharma. The initiative has been launched in collaboration with the Uttar Pradesh Government and Saloni Heart Foundation (SHF), USA.

Congenital Heart Disease (CHD) remains one of the leading causes of infant and childhood morbidity and mortality in India, with nearly 200,000 babies born each year with the condition. The dedicated PICU at SGPGI will provide critical diagnostic, surgical, and post-operative care to such children, ensuring timely treatment at a tertiary level.

The ceremony also saw the presence of Padma Shri Prof. R.K. Dhiman (Director, SGPGI), Prof. Aditya Kapoor (HoD, Cardiology), Dr. S.K. Agarwal (HoD, CVTS), Dr. Prabhat Tiwari (HoD, Anesthesiology), and Dr. Shantanu Pandey (Professor, CVTS), along with SHF representatives Himanshu Seth, Mrinalini Seth, and Vipin Jain. Senior officials of SBI and SBI Foundation were also in attendance.

Notably, the first phase of the SHF initiative was inaugurated by the Chief Minister in October 2024, with the launch of a 30-bed Pediatric CVTS ward. The ongoing expansion of facilities has already received ₹1.5 crore from the state government for ICU renovation.

Speaking on the occasion, state officials reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening pediatric and cardiac healthcare infrastructure. They emphasized SGPGI’s role as a premier tertiary referral center, working with global partners like SHF to bring world-class expertise to India.

The ₹10 crore contribution by SBI under its CSR initiative highlights the bank’s commitment to public health and community development. Expressing gratitude, Prof. Dhiman said the collaboration between the U.P. Government, SGPGI, SHF, and SBI showcases the power of public-private partnerships in addressing urgent healthcare needs and creating a sustainable model for advanced pediatric care.
