Second Major Road Accident in Three Days: Woman Dies, Child Safe — Rising Questions Over Traffic Management

Lucknow: A second major road tragedy within just three days has once again exposed the alarming state of traffic management in the city. The latest incident claimed the life of a 40-year-old woman, raising serious concerns over the safety of pedestrians and the growing negligence on busy routes.

The accident occurred near the reservation trisection on the stretch from KKC toward Naka. A government bus (registration number UP 32 MN 9180) had barely crossed the intersection when a woman suddenly came under the vehicle’s wheels.

The deceased has been identified as Sangeeta Rawat, wife of Sunil Rawat, resident of Shuklaganj under Gangaghat police station, Kanpur. She was crossing the road with her young child using the opening between the road dividers when the child suddenly ran ahead toward the road. In an attempt to save him, Sangeeta rushed forward and accidentally slipped under the approaching bus, resulting in her instantaneous death.

Police reached the spot soon after the incident, secured the body and sent it for panchanama and post-mortem at the Trauma Centre. The bus driver and the vehicle were taken into custody, and further legal proceedings have been initiated.

Authorities confirmed that no law-and-order issues emerged at the site. In a relief to the family, the child remained completely unharmed.

The accident has once again underlined the persistent flaws in the city’s traffic system — unsafe divider crossings, lack of pedestrian safeguards, and poor traffic regulation. Residents and commuters are urging immediate corrective measures to prevent more such tragedies in the future.
