- Over 75,000 Convictions Since 2017 Under Yogi Government’s Zero Tolerance Policy
- State Leads the Nation in NAFIS Implementation; 12 Forensic Labs Operational, 6 More in the Pipeline
Lucknow: The Yogi Adityanath government’s firm stance on crime through a zero tolerance policy has yielded significant results. Over the past eight years, more than 75,000 criminals in Uttar Pradesh have been convicted based on scientific evidence, thanks to the rapid expansion and modernization of forensic science laboratories across the state.
Before 2017, hardened criminals and mafia dons often walked free due to lack of evidence. But the scenario has drastically changed. Now, forensic science plays a pivotal role in delivering justice and tightening the grip of law on offenders.
From 4 to 12: Forensic Infrastructure Sees Unprecedented Growth
Prior to 2017, UP had only four forensic laboratories located in Lucknow, Varanasi, Agra, and Ghaziabad. Today, that number stands at 12, with new labs set up in Jhansi, Kannauj, Prayagraj, Gorakhpur, Bareilly, Gonda, Aligarh, and Moradabad.
Six more labs are in various stages of development in Ayodhya, Bareilly, Banda, Azamgarh, Mirzapur, and Saharanpur. These upgrades have significantly enhanced the prosecution’s efficiency, as evident in the higher case resolution rate in 2023 compared to 2022.
UP Tops India in Fingerprint Identification System (NAFIS)
Uttar Pradesh leads the country in the National Automated Fingerprint Identification System (NAFIS) implementation. The state has successfully enrolled 4,14,473 fingerprint records, the highest in India, according to NCRB, New Delhi.
This biometric database, integrated with a high-speed state server, enables real-time fingerprint analysis across all districts. Officers and technical staff have been specially trained to use this system effectively, enhancing investigative speed and accuracy.

Cutting-edge Forensic Research Boosts Justice Delivery
The newly established labs are equipped with advanced tools and highly trained scientists conducting research and analysis in criminal cases like murder, rape, theft, and cybercrime. The government has adopted the latest forensic techniques aligned with legal standards such as BNS, BNSS, and BSA-2023, boosting the credibility and admissibility of evidence in court.
Scientific Approach Strengthens Legal System and Public Trust
According to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the success of a zero-tolerance policy against crime hinges on technological intervention and scientific support. By modernizing and expanding the forensic lab network, the state has taken a historic step in improving law and order, ensuring faster convictions, and instilling greater public trust in the judicial process.
The result: criminals no longer find loopholes due to lack of evidence. Instead, they are facing swift and decisive legal action supported by undeniable forensic proof.
A Safer, More Just Uttar Pradesh
The transformation in UP’s law enforcement and justice system underlines the government’s commitment to public safety and accountability. With plans for six more forensic labs underway and continued focus on technological advancement, Uttar Pradesh is setting a national benchmark in forensic-based policing and justice delivery.
This comprehensive strategy not only curbs crime but also sends a strong message: In UP, no criminal can escape justice anymore.
