SCIENCE CITY: Science Expo–2026 Focuses on Health, Nutrition and Scientific Thinking

Lucknow: The Science Expo–2026, organised at the Regional Science City, concluded with a dignified closing ceremony marked by meaningful discussions, science outreach activities and enthusiastic participation from students. The event highlighted the importance of health, nutrition and scientific thinking in everyday life. Rajendra Kumar, Additional Director General, Geological Survey of India (GSI), attended the valedictory ceremony as the chief guest.

The programme began with a welcome address by Swaroop Mandal, Project Coordinator, who outlined the objectives of Science Expo–2026 and emphasised its role in promoting scientific temperament and public awareness. This was followed by a popular science lecture delivered by Dr Rana Pratap Singh, which drew keen interest from students and visitors.

Expert lectures focusing on health, nutrition and lifestyle sciences formed a key part of the expo. Dr Ashok Kumar Yadav, in his address, stressed the importance of a balanced and nutritious diet, urging people to prefer traditional and wholesome foods over junk food. He explained the role of carbohydrates, proteins, fibre, vitamins and antioxidants in maintaining good health.

An interactive session conducted by Dr Nikhil Kumar encouraged students to adopt simple and nutritious food habits. He underlined the importance of self-confidence and awareness for leading a healthy lifestyle, especially in today’s fast-paced environment.

As part of the day’s activities, a quiz competition based on daily science was organised. This included a family quiz on kitchen chemistry and a science show titled “Fantastic Chemistry.” A popular interactive session, “Meet Your Scientist,” also took place, giving students an opportunity to interact directly with scientists and ask questions.

During the discussion, student Vikramaditya Goyal raised questions on the benefits of healthy food and the harmful effects of junk food, leading to an engaging exchange with experts. Speakers highlighted the growing need for awareness about balanced diets in a fast-food-driven lifestyle.

The valedictory session also featured a prize distribution ceremony, where students were honoured for their participation and outstanding performance. Institutions contributing to Science Expo–2026 were presented with mementoes in recognition of their support.

Addressing the gathering, Rajendra Kumar praised the efforts of the Regional Science City in promoting scientific awareness and scientific thinking among students and the general public. He described such initiatives as crucial for building a scientifically informed society.

Shruti Shukla, Deputy Director, Directorate of Environment, Government of Uttar Pradesh, and Huma Mustafa, Joint Director, Uttar Pradesh Council of Science and Technology, were also present on the occasion. Around 1,400 students participated in the expo. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Ram Kumar, Education Officer.
