Sanjay Raut Slams ‘One Nation, One Election’ Law; Calls It a Threat to Federalism

Mumbai: Sanjay Raut, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP, on Wednesday criticized the proposed ‘One Nation, One Election’ law, labeling it an attempt to “destroy” India’s federal system. Raut alleged that the law is designed to centralize power under one political entity.

“This is an effort to dismantle the federal system of our nation,” Raut told ANI. “The measure aims to consolidate political authority in one person’s hands, undermining the autonomy of states. The BJP, as the biggest spender in elections, stands to gain the most from this system,” he added.

The Shiv Sena (UBT) leader also took a jab at Union Home Minister Amit Shah, accusing him of disrespecting Dr. B.R. Ambedkar during a recent Rajya Sabha session. “Amit Shah’s comments against Dr. Ambedkar are an insult, and we, as the opposition, will hold him accountable for his statements,” Raut said.

In his remarks, Raut criticized the BJP’s frequent attacks on the Gandhi family, suggesting they had no other political strategies left.

Mahayuti Alliance in Maharashtra Under Stress

Meanwhile, Raut commented on the growing tension within Maharashtra’s Mahayuti alliance. According to ANI, Chhagan Bhujbal, a senior leader of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), expressed discontent over being excluded from the state cabinet.

Raut noted that Ajit Pawar, Deputy Chief Minister and a key leader of the NCP faction allied with the BJP, dismissed Bhujbal’s allegations that Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis had offered him a ministerial position. “Chhagan Bhujbal is a senior NCP leader. His assertions may reflect internal discontent, but he is capable of fighting his own battles,” Raut said.

Highlighting Bhujbal’s resilience, Raut recalled incidents from the past, including his tenure as Belgaum mayor, where he faced police mistreatment but continued his fight undeterred. “At 79, Bhujbal remains a warrior,” Raut added, suggesting that his exclusion from the cabinet doesn’t diminish his significance in Maharashtra politics.
