Samajwadi Party to Observe July 26 as ‘Constitutional Pillar Day’ to Honour Social Justice and Reservation Legacy

Lucknow — The Samajwadi Party (SP) will observe July 26, traditionally known as ‘Reservation Day’, as ‘Constitution-Maanstambh Sthapna Diwas’ (Constitutional Pillar Establishment Day), announced SP National President and former Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav. The decision aims to commemorate the foundational values of social justice and constitutional safeguards for marginalised communities.

Yadav said the day marks a historic milestone when Rajarshi Chhatrapati Shahuji Maharaj of Kolhapur implemented the reservation policy envisioned by Mahatma Jyotiba Phule, laying the groundwork for institutionalised social justice. “July 26 is the day when the spirit of social justice was put into practice. It later evolved into a constitutional right under the visionary efforts of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, becoming a core pillar of India’s democracy,” he said.

The party plans to hold solemn events at its headquarters and across its offices on July 26, featuring the Indian Constitution at the centre of all ceremonies. The programme, Yadav stated, is meant to reinforce the party’s commitment to protecting the Constitution and ensuring social equity for the marginalised PDA (Pichda, Dalit, Alpsankhyak) communities.

Calling the Constitution a “shield and armour” of the people, Yadav said, “Only when the Constitution survives will reservation survive. It is the guiding light of our mission for a just and equal society.”

Yadav further emphasised that the ‘Maanstambh’ (moral pillar) represents more than a symbolic structure—it is envisioned as a ‘PDA-Prakashstambh’ (Beacon of Social Justice), serving as a constant reminder of the Samajwadi Party’s resolve to build a governance system rooted in equality, inclusiveness, and constitutional values.

The slogan adopted for the occasion highlights the essence of the movement:

Jo Peedit, Vo PDA — Jai Samvidhan, Jai PDA — Jai Samvidhan, Jai Aarakshan — Samvidhan Maanstambh Sthapna Diwas — Samvidhan Maanstambh Samajwadi Party — Samvidhan Maanstambh PDA Prakashstambh.”

With this symbolic and purposeful observance, the Samajwadi Party aims to solidify its ideological foundation ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections and reassert its role as a champion of constitutional rights and social justice in India.
