New Delhi: Government employees will now be able to participate in the activities of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). The central government has lifted the ban on the participation of government employees in the activities of RSS after 58 years. Although no statement has been officially issued in this regard, BJP and Congress have claimed in their ex-post that the ban has been lifted.
Ban lifted after 58 years
Various state governments including Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh have already lifted the ban on government employees being associated with RSS. It is worth noting that on 30 November 1966, the central government had banned government employees from participating in the activities of RSS. The central government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi lifted the ban imposed during the rule of Indira Gandhi, according to an order on July 9.
RSS was banned in 1948
BJP IT cell chief Amit Malviya shared a screenshot of the Personnel Ministry’s order on X and posted, 58 years ago, the unconstitutional order issued in 1966, which banned government employees from participating in RSS activities, has been withdrawn by the Modi government. Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh posted, Sardar Patel had banned RSS in February 1948 after Gandhiji’s assassination. After this, the ban was lifted on the assurance of good conduct.

Jairam Ramesh said that in 1966, government employees were banned from participating in RSS activities. This was right too. On July 9, 2024, the 58-year-old ban was lifted, which was in force even when Vajpayee was the Prime Minister. The Congress leader also shared a screenshot of the original order dated November 30, 1966, which banned government employees from participating in the activities of RSS and Jamaat-e-Islami.
Congress media and publicity department chief Pawan Khera shared a screenshot of the order and said that 58 years ago, the central government had banned government employees from participating in RSS activities. The Modi government has withdrawn that order.
