Roadways Employees’ Council Meets Principal Secretary, Submits Charter of Demands

Lucknow – A delegation of the Uttar Pradesh Roadways Employees’ Joint Council met Amit Kumar Gupta, Principal Secretary, Transport Department, Government of Uttar Pradesh, at Bapu Bhawan, Secretariat, for an extensive discussion on long-standing issues and demands of the Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) and its employees.

The council raised several concerns, including illegal operations on nationalized routes, violations of permit conditions by vehicles operating under All India Tourist Permits, disparity in additional tax rates between private buses and UPSRTC buses, regularization of contractual drivers, conductors, and daily-wage employees appointed before 2001, payment of pending dearness allowance arrears from the due date, rectification of serious pay anomalies, revision of house rent allowance for employees posted outside the state, and filling of vacant posts through direct recruitment.

Council General Secretary Girish Chandra Mishra stated that the Principal Secretary informed the delegation about ongoing measures to curb unauthorized operations and the imposition of penalties on tourist permit violators. The matter of removing disparities in additional passenger tax rates between private and UPSRTC buses is under active consideration. Approval for recruitment to vacant direct-hire positions has already been granted.

The Principal Secretary assured that the pending 3% DA installment will be forwarded to the “Authorised Committee” for approval, and directions have been issued to review HRA for out-of-state postings and address pay anomalies. Remaining demands will be discussed in a follow-up meeting with the council.

The meeting was attended by Ram Singh Verma, Additional Managing Director, and Ankur Vikas, Chief Manager (Labour Welfare) from UPSRTC, along with council leaders Girija Shankar Tiwari (President), Girish Chandra Mishra (General Secretary), Mahesh Kumar Rai and Suresh Chandra Pandey (Vice Presidents), and Sanjay Kumar Rana (Additional General Secretary).
