RML Director Honored with M.S. Swaminathan Oration Award 2025

Lucknow –  For his outstanding contribution in the field of Medical Food and Nutrition, Professor C.M. Singh, Director of Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences, was conferred with the M.S. Swaminathan Oration Award 2025.

The award was presented, during the Pre-Conference Live Certification Workshops and ISMN Awards & Fellowship Ceremony at Kalam Centre, King George’s Medical University. The event formed part of the 5th World Congress on Medical Food and Nutrition.

This prestigious honor recognizes Prof. Singh’s exemplary work in advancing nutritional science and healthcare, marking a proud moment for the institute. The award commemorates the memory of legendary agricultural scientist Dr. M.S. Swaminathan, father of India’s Green Revolution, whose pioneering research transformed the nation from a food-deficient to a food-secure country while linking nutrition, food security, and sustainable development.

In his keynote address, Prof. Singh shed light on India’s pressing malnutrition crisis. Citing NFHS-5 data, he highlighted alarming rates of stunting, wasting, and underweight children. He also drew attention to the “double burden” of malnutrition—undernutrition alongside rising obesity and anemia.

Prof. Singh emphasized the need to strengthen government initiatives such as the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS), Poshan Abhiyaan, Mid-Day Meal Scheme, and Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana to ensure better nutritional outcomes for mothers and children.

He noted that malnutrition is not merely a health challenge but a national development concern. Addressing it requires multi-sectoral efforts, public awareness, and strong interventions to help India achieve the WHO and UNICEF nutrition goals for 2030.

His address deeply resonated with the scientific community, inspiring collective action toward eliminating hunger and malnutrition.
