A Melodic Opening
The first day of the festival saw a massive crowd gather to experience the magic of Indie-folk singer and songwriter Prateek Kuhad. His soulful melodies and poignant lyrics created an ambiance that resonated with every listener. As the music echoed across the venue, attendees found themselves humming Kuhad’s heartfelt tunes long after the concert ended.
Beyond the Performances
Beyond the enchanting performances, food and artisan stalls added to the festival’s charm, becoming a hub for Lucknow’s gastronomes and craft enthusiasts. From traditional delicacies to innovative artisan creations, the bazaar provided an immersive experience that complemented the artistic vibe of the festival.
A Visionary Initiative
Speaking about the festival’s mission, Bhoopesh Rai, Founder, and Priyanka Sarkar, Co-Founder, emphasized the festival’s role as a bridge between performing arts and the wider public.
“The primary objective of the Repertwahr Festival is to bridge the gap between performing arts and the general public, fostering a deeper connection by making these art forms accessible, relatable, and enjoyable for audiences from all walks of life,” shared Rai and Sarkar.
Their vision reflects a deep commitment to democratizing art and creating a shared space where creativity thrives and transcends generational divides.
‘Sartaj’: The Soul of Repertwahr
At the heart of the festival stood ‘Sartaj’, a magnificent 40-foot art installation crafted entirely from recycled materials. This towering structure was more than a visual marvel—it symbolized the festival’s essence and spirit. Representing themes like Ustaad, Behrupiya, Maskara, Bookworm, and The Provider, Sartaj became the beating heart of Repertwahr, blending stories, art forms, and the human spirit into a singular, awe-inspiring piece.
Situated at the center of the festival, Sartaj embodied ‘Khwabo Ki Duniya’—a world where art, culture, and imagination unite to celebrate the infinite potential of creativity.
A Journey Through Time
What began in 2009 as a modest theatre festival has since evolved into India’s Most Unique Performing Arts Festival, encompassing music, literature, stand-up comedy, theatre, food, and craft bazaars. Over the years, Repertwahr has established itself as a cultural phenomenon that reflects Lucknow’s rich heritage and progressive ethos.
As Rai expressed gratitude for the festival’s growth, he acknowledged the collective efforts that made it possible:
“We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our esteemed audience, whose enthusiasm and energy fueled the festival; to the administration, whose unwavering support enabled us to bring this vision to life; and to our talented artists, whose creative genius and dedication made this celebration of art and culture a resounding success.”
Looking Ahead
The Repertwahr Festival is not merely a celebration—it is a movement that nurtures the confluence of tradition and modernity. With three more days of immersive performances and experiences ahead, this year’s festival promises to be a landmark chapter in the city’s cultural calendar, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of its attendees.
From its origins as a theatre festival in 2009 to its current status as a cultural extravaganza, the Repertwahr Festival has redefined performing arts in India. With its unique blend of genres and a commitment to creativity, it continues to inspire and connect audiences across generations.
As the lights dimmed on Day 1, the spirit of Repertwahr illuminated Lucknow’s cultural landscape, reminding everyone that art, in its myriad forms, is the ultimate celebration of humanity.
