Renowned Neurologist Dr U.K. Mishra Passes Away, Medical Fraternity Mourns Irreparable Loss

Lucknow/New Delhi | The medical community in Lucknow and beyond is in deep mourning following the untimely demise of noted neurologist Dr U K Mishra, who passed away on April 10, 2026, at Escorts Hospital after undergoing cardiac surgery. Dr Mishra was associated with Vivekananda Polyclinic and Institute of Medical Sciences, where he earned a reputation as a compassionate physician, dedicated teacher, and senior clinical research investigator. Known for his gentle demeanor and simplicity, he remained deeply committed to patient care throughout his career.

Pioneer in Neurology and Medical Education

Dr Mishra began his professional journey at Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences, where he played a pioneering role in establishing the Department of Neurology. Over a distinguished career spanning nearly five decades, he mentored and trained around 300 DM students, leaving a lasting legacy in the field of neurological sciences.

In addition to his clinical and teaching contributions, he was actively involved in pharmaceutical research. Recently, he contributed to the establishment of a laboratory at the institute dedicated to drug trials and research aimed at developing new treatments for emerging diseases.

Speaking on the occasion, Swami Muktinathanand recalled Dr Mishra’s humility and discipline, noting that despite his stature, he remained free of ego and was always punctual in attending to his patients.
