Regional Sports Office Celebrates 100 Glorious Years of Hockey India

Lucknow: The Regional Sports Office, Lucknow, celebrated with immense pride and honour the Centenary Year of Hockey India, marking 100 glorious years of excellence, legacy, and national pride in Indian hockey. The event served as a tribute to the country’s rich hockey heritage, its achievements, and the inspiring journey that has shaped India’s sporting identity over the past century.

Over the last 100 years, Hockey India has not only taken the sport to unparalleled heights — from multiple Olympic gold medals to nurturing young talents at the grassroots level — but has also become a shining symbol of India’s sports culture and collective spirit.

To commemorate this landmark occasion, a boys’ and girls’ hockey tournament was organized at the Mini Stadium, Vikas Khand, Lucknow, jointly by the Regional Sports Office, Lucknow, and the Lucknow Hockey Association.

In the boys’ category, a spirited match was played between Red Boys and Blue Boys, while the girls’ match featured Red Girls versus Blue Girls. Both matches were intensely competitive, and despite several attempts, neither team managed to score during the regulation time — resulting in a draw for both fixtures.

As part of the celebrations, legendary hockey players from Uttar Pradesh who have brought laurels to the state and the nation through their outstanding performances were specially felicitated. The event paid heartfelt tribute to their invaluable contributions to Indian hockey and their role in inspiring future generations.

The ceremony was graced by  Pawan Singh Chauhan,  Member of the Legislative Council, who attended as the Chief Guest, along with  Atul Sinha, Regional Sports Officer, Lucknow;  Arvind Singh Kushwaha, Deputy Sports Officer;  Syed Ali, International Hockey Player;  Rajneesh Mishra, International Player;  Mukul Lal Shah, International Hockey Player;  Devendra Dhyan Chand, son of the legendary Major Dhyan Chand;  Avinash Srivastava, Secretary, Lucknow Hockey Association; and  Rishi Kumar, Hockey Coach (Grade-1).
