Ramakrishna Mission Expands the Scope of Its Service Activities

Lucknow: The Ramakrishna Mission, a renowned international charitable and spiritual organisation that has completed 127 years of service, has significantly expanded the scope of its welfare activities across India. Founded by Swami Vivekananda to give practical shape to the teachings of his guru Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa, the Mission continues to uphold its core philosophy of “Service to mankind is service to God.”

Reflecting its growing commitment to public welfare, the Mission’s expenditure on service activities has witnessed a substantial rise. While ₹1,292 crore was spent on welfare initiatives across the country last year, this figure has increased to ₹1,670 crore in the current year, enabling the organisation to reach a larger section of society.

The details were shared during the 116th Annual General Meeting of the Ramakrishna Mission, held at its headquarters at Belur Math, Howrah. Addressing the gathering, Swami Suvirananda, General Secretary of the Ramakrishna Mission, lauded the public-oriented services rendered by the Vivekananda Polyclinic and Institute of Medical Sciences, Lucknow, along with other charitable institutions run by the Mission. He emphasised that such large-scale humanitarian services are possible only due to generous public support and financial cooperation, which deserve deep gratitude and appreciation.

Providing further details, Swami Muktinathananda, Secretary of Vivekananda Polyclinic and Institute of Medical Sciences, said that during the year the Mission carried out extensive service activities across multiple sectors. Expenditure included ₹11.59 crore on relief and rehabilitation, ₹42.88 crore on general welfare, ₹600.54 crore on medical services, ₹743.17 crore on education, ₹6.34 crore on rural and tribal development, ₹240.95 crore on lectures and allied services, and ₹25.32 crore on literature publication. In total, ₹1,670.79 crore was spent nationwide on various service initiatives.

Apart from healthcare and education, the Ramakrishna Mission has also made significant contributions in the educational, cultural, rural and tribal development sectors. A large number of relief and rehabilitation programmes were undertaken during the year, further reinforcing the Mission’s role as one of the country’s leading humanitarian organisations dedicated to inclusive and selfless service.
