Rajeshwar Singh Honoured at House of Lords for Excellence in Public and Political Life

Highlights Role of Legal Diplomacy Through UK-India Legal Partnership; Showcases Uttar Pradesh’s Opportunities Under UK-India FTA

London, United Kingdom : Noted legal expert and Uttar Pradesh MLA Rajeshwar Singh was recently honoured at the historic House of Lords in Westminster Palace for his outstanding contribution to political and public life, especially for his work in law and governance.

In a ceremony marked by high-level dignitaries and global legal minds, Singh was celebrated for bridging legal diplomacy between India and the United Kingdom, while also articulating the opportunities emerging from the UK-India Free Trade Agreement (FTA), particularly those relevant to Uttar Pradesh.

UK-India Legal Partnership: A Pillar for Stronger Bilateral Ties

Speaking at the event, Singh emphasized the importance of the UK-India Legal Partnership (UKILP) as a key institutional tool to ensure compliance, dispute resolution, and WTO coordination under the emerging FTA regime. With bilateral trade between India and the UK projected to grow from $57 billion in 2024 to over $120 billion by 2030, Singh highlighted how legal frameworks will be essential in securing mutual benefits — from employment generation and investment inflows to reducing China dependence and countering US protectionism.

“The UK-India FTA is not just an economic agreement — it is a strategic realignment in a post-Brexit world,” Singh noted. “Our legal systems must now play a proactive role in strengthening trust, transparency, and investment readiness.”

Gratitude to Prime Minister Modi and Dedication to Constituency

Singh extended his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying his global leadership has instilled India with renewed confidence on the world stage.

“Public service has always been close to my heart,” he said. “This award is a tribute to my continuous commitment to my constituency and to my unique journey as a protector, interpreter, and legislator of the law.”

House of Lords: A Historic Honour

The event at the House of Lords brought together esteemed personalities including Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, Lords Virendra Sharma and Rami Ranger, former Attorney General Mukul Rohatgi, as well as international judges and legal scholars from Dubai, Australia, and beyond.

Singh described the experience as a moment of deep pride and inspiration, calling the House of Lords “a pillar of democracy and constitutional wisdom.”

Keynote Guest at ICA London Conference

On June 5, Singh also attended the ICA London Conference 2025 as a special guest speaker, focusing on the theme: “India-UK Commercial Arbitration – Third Edition”. He called the discussions “an unforgettable learning experience,” adding that such international forums are vital in shaping modern jurisprudence and reaffirming commitment to public service.

A Remarkable Milestone in Legal Diplomacy

Rajeshwar Singh’s recognition at the House of Lords stands as a significant milestone in India’s growing soft power and legal diplomacy. As a legislator with deep experience in law enforcement, legal reform, and public policy, Singh continues to play a pivotal role in shaping a transparent and investment-ready governance model for Uttar Pradesh and beyond.
