Rajat Patidar Named RCB Captain for IPL 2025

Bengaluru: Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have appointed Rajat Patidar as their captain for the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) season. The franchise made the official announcement on February 13, confirming that the 31-year-old batsman will take over the reins from Faf du Plessis.

A Proven Leader

Patidar, who has been an integral part of RCB’s batting unit, has showcased his leadership skills in domestic cricket. He has captained Madhya Pradesh in both the Vijay Hazare Trophy and the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. While his team finished as runners-up in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, Patidar was in sensational form, scoring 428 runs in ten matches at a blistering strike rate of 186.08.

Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis Extend Support

Former RCB skipper Virat Kohli extended his support to Patidar, encouraging the team and fans to rally behind the new captain. Kohli, who led RCB for over a decade, expressed confidence in Patidar’s abilities.

Faf du Plessis, who captained the side from 2022 to 2024, also wished Patidar well and officially handed over the leadership responsibilities. The South African veteran played a crucial role in mentoring younger players and strengthening RCB’s batting order during his tenure.
