“Rajat Patidar Has Been a Nightmare for Bowlers”: Irfan Pathan After RCB’s Win Over MI

Bengaluru: Royal Challengers Bengaluru registered a convincing 18-run victory over Mumbai Indians in their Indian Premier League 2026 clash, with experts highlighting key moments that shaped the game—from batting intent to disciplined bowling.

Speaking on JioHotstar’s ‘Google Search AI Mode Match Centre Live’, former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan pointed out that while Mumbai’s batting faltered in the chase, the problems began much earlier.

“There are concerns with the batting, no doubt, but the bigger issue was conceding 240. That said, chasing 241 on this pitch, you still expect them to get closer. The lack of a strong Powerplay start and early wickets created pressure. In the middle overs, they had opportunities to accelerate but couldn’t capitalise,” he observed.

Pathan added that contributions from Hardik Pandya lacked control, while Tilak Varma has endured a quiet run of form. He also noted that players like Ryan Rickelton need to develop more options against spin, with “small gaps” ultimately proving costly.

Patidar’s Fearless Approach Sets the Tone

Pathan reserved special praise for Rajat Patidar, whose aggressive innings proved pivotal.

“Rajat Patidar has been a nightmare for bowlers. He comes in and starts attacking from ball one. That intent changes everything. The moment he walked in, he set the tone, and every ball looked like it could go the distance,” he said.

According to Pathan, Patidar’s fearless approach has emerged as one of the biggest positives for RCB this season, giving their batting lineup a distinct edge.

Kohli Anchors, Others Accelerate

Former India spinner Harbhajan Singh offered his assessment of Virat Kohli’s innings, describing it as crucial despite a relatively measured scoring rate.

“Kohli’s half-century may have come at a slightly slower pace, and you could sense he wasn’t fully satisfied, especially with the tempo at the other end. But his role was vital—he ensured stability and prevented early wickets,” Harbhajan said.

He added that Kohli’s cautious approach against Jasprit Bumrah was a calculated move, while he made sure to capitalise against other bowlers, allowing aggressive players like Phil Salt and Patidar to dominate.

Krunal Pandya’s Spell Turns the Game

Harbhajan also lauded Krunal Pandya for his match-defining spell.

“Krunal was outstanding—just 26 runs in four overs and a key wicket like Suryakumar Yadav. In T20 cricket, it’s not always about big turn but about awareness. He used his angles, pace, and understanding of conditions brilliantly,” he explained.

He further noted that Krunal’s performance challenged the perception that spinners struggle at the Wankhede Stadium, calling it a “perfect example of adapting to conditions.”

Bowling Makes the Difference

While RCB’s batting firepower set up the win, it was their bowling discipline that sealed the result. Experts agreed that performances like Krunal’s often go under the radar but are decisive in high-scoring encounters.

Meanwhile, fans can look forward to the next high-voltage clash as Sunrisers Hyderabad take on Rajasthan Royals in today’s IPL 2026 Rivalry Week fixture at 7:30 PM, live on JioHotstar and Star Sports Network.
