Lucknow: In a swift action to ensure drug safety, the district administration and the Food Safety and Drug Administration (FSDA) conducted raids across several medical stores in Lucknow on Monday to trace the presence of the Colddrif Syrup brand, following reports of child deaths in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh linked to its consumption.
The raids were carried out under the directives of District Magistrate and Assistant Commissioner (FSDA) Brijesh Kumar, after alarming reports emerged concerning the syrup manufactured by Shreson Pharmaceutical.
Teams led by Assistant Commissioner Brijesh Kumar, along with Drug Inspectors Sandesh Maurya and Vivek Kumar, jointly inspected several medical stores situated near Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences (RMLIMS) and Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGI) in Lucknow.
The medical stores inspected included M/s Awadh Pharmacy, M/s Purvanchal Medicals, and M/s Mohan Medicals near RMLIMS, as well as M/s Om Medicals and M/s Beer Medical Store near SGPGI.

During the inspection, Colddrif Syrup was not found in stock or being sold at any of the outlets. However, officials collected samples of 10 other cough syrups from the mentioned pharmacies for testing and analysis. These samples are being sent to the State Government Laboratory, Uttar Pradesh, for detailed examination.
Authorities stated that if any of the tested samples are found to contain non-standard or harmful ingredients, strict legal action will be initiated against the concerned parties.
Assistant Commissioner Brijesh Kumar emphasized that the department will continue surprise inspections across the city to ensure that substandard or unsafe medicines do not reach the public, particularly in light of recent tragedies involving children.
