Incentivising Humanity, One Life at a Time
Lucknow — In a major step toward improving emergency response after road accidents, the Yogi Adityanath-led government has officially implemented the ‘Rahveer Yojana’ across Uttar Pradesh. The scheme, a Central Government initiative, offers a reward of up to ₹25,000 to any Good Samaritan who helps transport an accident victim to a hospital within the crucial ‘golden hour’.
What is the Rahveer Yojana?
The Rahveer Yojana is a nationwide initiative aimed at encouraging public participation in saving lives during road accidents. Under this scheme, individuals who step in to help injured persons and ensure they receive medical attention within the first hour post-accident—deemed the golden hour—are eligible for a government reward of up to ₹25,000.
The objective is to inspire empathy and swift action among citizens, while also providing legal protection to those who choose to help.
Why the Golden Hour Matters
Medical experts stress that the first hour after a road accident is critical. Immediate care during this period dramatically increases the chances of survival and recovery for the injured. However, many potential helpers hesitate due to fear of legal entanglements or societal pressure.
The new scheme addresses this hesitation by offering both financial incentives and legal safeguards to rescuers.
Changing Public Attitude Towards Helping Victims
The Yogi government hopes the plan will transform public perception and behavior. By acknowledging and rewarding acts of humanity, the government aims to build a culture where helping accident victims becomes a norm rather than an exception.
“Many lives can be saved if people act without fear or delay. With Rahveer Yojana, we want to encourage exactly that,” said a senior official from the state transport department.
Statewide Rollout Starting from Lucknow
Initially launched in the capital city of Lucknow, the scheme has now been extended across all districts of Uttar Pradesh. The government is also focusing on mass awareness campaigns to ensure people from all walks of life are informed and motivated to take part.
Key Features of the Rahveer Yojana:
-
₹25,000 reward for those who transport accident victims to a hospital within one hour.
-
Applicable across all public and private hospitals in the state.
-
No legal or administrative hassles for the helper; anonymity can also be maintained if requested.
-
Supported by public awareness drives and collaboration with law enforcement and health departments.
Looking Ahead
By merging empathy with incentives, the Uttar Pradesh government is setting a powerful precedent. The implementation of the Rahveer Yojana is expected to significantly reduce fatalities from road accidents and instill a stronger sense of community responsibility.
As the plan gains momentum, officials anticipate a wave of civic participation, making Uttar Pradesh not only safer but also more compassionate.
