Raghuveer Lal Appointed as New Police Commissioner of Kanpur

Kanpur: The Uttar Pradesh government has appointed Raghuveer Lal as the new Police Commissioner of Kanpur. A 1997-batch IPS officer, Lal is currently serving as ADG Security and will take over from Akhil Kumar, who was recently transferred.

Akhil Kumar’s transfer took place on August 25, when he was appointed Managing Director (MD) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Digital India Corporation at the central level. Following this, the Home Department issued a letter to the state government on August 29, directing that Kumar be relieved immediately for central deputation.

Raghuveer Lal hails from Rudraprayag, Uttarakhand, and has a long career in central deputation. He has served as Joint Secretary for security at the Lok Sabha Secretariat and has extensive experience in law and order management. Before the implementation of the Police Commissioner system in Lucknow, Lal was the first and last SP (Law & Order) of the state capital under the previous administrative setup.

His appointment comes at a crucial time as Kanpur continues to implement modern policing strategies under the Commissionerate system, and Lal’s experience in both state and central deputation is expected to strengthen law enforcement and administrative oversight in the city.
