Pulse Polio Drive to Begin on December 14

Target to administer polio drops to 7.03 lakh children aged 0–5 years

Lucknow — The Health Department has completed all preparations for the upcoming Pulse Polio Campaign, scheduled to begin on December 14. The drive aims to administer polio drops to 7.03 lakh children between the ages of zero and five years across the district.

Ahead of the campaign, a one-day orientation programme was organised at the Chief Medical Officer’s (CMO) office auditorium as part of the “Tika Utsav” activities. In addition, a two-day training session was conducted for cold chain handlers at the CMO office. A total of 88 cold chain handlers—from 38 previously established and six newly set-up cold chain points—received training.

Chief Medical Officer Dr. N. B. Singh informed that orientation programmes are being held at district and block levels to ensure smooth execution of the campaign. During the December 2 training, handlers were trained in vaccine storage, temperature maintenance, equipment management, and timely delivery of vaccines to cold chain points. The objective is to ensure safe and high-quality vaccines reach every beneficiary.

The Pulse Polio Campaign will run from December 14 to 19. On the opening day, 2,783 booths will be set up at government schools, aided schools, and Anganwadi centres. Additional booths will also be installed at railway stations, bus stands, and tempo stands to ensure maximum coverage.

From December 15 to 19, a total of 2,204 teams will conduct door-to-door visits to administer polio drops. Alongside these, 136 mobile teams and 226 transit teams have been formed. Children who miss the drops during the main campaign will be covered during the mop-up round on December 22.

Dr. Singh added that special attention will be given to children of brick-kiln workers, nomadic families, and labourers engaged in construction activities to ensure no child is left out.

With all major arrangements in place, the Health Department is set to begin the campaign with full preparedness.
