Prof. Sumitra Kukreti Appointed Visitor’s Nominee at Tezpur Central University

BAREILLY – Professor Sumitra Kukreti, Head of the English Department and Dean of the Faculty of Linguistics at Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Rohilkhand University (MJPRU), has been appointed as a Visitor’s Nominee to the Board of Management at Tezpur Central University, Tezpur. The appointment was made by the President of India, who also serves as the Chancellor of Tezpur Central University. Her three-year term began in July 2025.

A Distinguished Career in Higher Education

This is not Professor Kukreti’s first time holding such a prestigious position. She previously served as a Visitor’s Nominee on the Executive Council of Hemvati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal University in Srinagar Garhwal for a three-year term. She has also served as Pro-Vice Chancellor at the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) in Delhi.

With a D.Litt degree in English, Professor Kukreti has a remarkable career spanning 35 years in higher education. She has contributed her expertise to several esteemed institutions, including Garhwal University, G.B. Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, IGNOU, and MJPRU.

At MJPRU, she has previously served as the Dean of the Faculty of Education and Allied Sciences. Currently, in addition to her role as Head of the English Department, she serves as the Coordinator of the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC).

Professor Kukreti confirmed that she is in contact with the officials at Tezpur Central University and will soon travel to Tezpur for an upcoming Board of Management meeting. Her extensive experience is expected to significantly benefit the university’s governance and academic direction.
