Prof. Naveen Arora of BBAU conferred with Fellow of Academy of Microbiological Sciences by Association of Microbiologists of India

Lucknow: Prof. Naveen Kumar Arora, Department of Environmental Science, Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University, Lucknow was conferred with the prestigious Fellow of Academy of Microbiological Sciences by the Association of Microbiologists of India (AMI) at the 66th Annual Conference of Association of Microbiologists of India and International Conference on Next-Gen Microbiology Education, Innovation and Research for Economy, Energy and Environment held at Dehradun, Uttarakhand. Association of Microbiologists of India. AMI is the oldest and most prestigious association of microbiologists. It was established in the year 1938. The AMI has contributed immensely towards the development of microbiology in the country. There are 5526 life members of this society from all over the country.

Prof. Naveen Arora was conferred with this esteemed award of Fellow for his outstanding contribution in the field of plant-microbe interactions. He has reported new bacterial strains of plant growth promoting bacteria and also determined the mechanisms by which rhizospheric bacteria enhance plant growth, particularly under stressed conditions imposed by climate change. Prof Arora has developed novel biofertilizers which have helped in restoration of salt-affected land in Uttar Pradesh.

This has helped in improvement of livelihood of the farmers in central Uttar Pradesh by restoring the productivity of “usar” land. He has also been awarded a patent for developing a novel vegan media for cultivation of soil bacteria and fungi in laboratory, which will help in research and identification of new microbial strains. Prof Arora has supervised 22 doctoral scholars. He is also Editor in Chief of a prestigious international journal “Environmental Sustainability”.

While giving the information Prof. Naveen Kumar Arora said that this prestigious award is a recognition for continuous work in the field of microbiology for more than two decades. Such awards help in further motivating for doing research, particularly for the upliftment of communities and solving their problems. This is a pride moment for me and Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University.
