Delhi: In a stunning display of power and precision, Prithvi Shaw hammered a whirlwind double century off just 141 balls for Maharashtra in their Ranji Trophy 2025–26 clash against Chandigarh on Monday — making it the third-fastest double hundred in the tournament’s storied history.
The 25-year-old right-hander, known for his aggressive batting style, reached his century in 72 balls and powered past 150 in just 105 deliveries, as per Wisden. His blistering innings eventually ended at 222 off 156 balls, featuring 29 fours and five sixes, helping Maharashtra reach 348/3 in 50.2 overs, with skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad unbeaten on 27 at the other end.
This innings marks another milestone in Shaw’s comeback journey, following his switch from Mumbai to Maharashtra earlier this year after obtaining a No Objection Certificate (NOC). The move appears to have reinvigorated his domestic career, with Shaw making a strong statement against his former side, scoring a century against Shardul Thakur-led Mumbai earlier in the season.

Opening the innings with Arshin Kulkarni, Shaw paced his knock perfectly — starting watchfully before unleashing a barrage of boundaries. Kulkarni too played a spectacular knock of 186 off 139 balls, as the duo stitched a monumental 305-run stand, dismantling the Chandigarh bowling attack.
Shaw’s explosive form comes at a crucial time as selectors eye consistent domestic performers for India’s upcoming international assignments. His innings not only reaffirmed his reputation as one of India’s most naturally gifted stroke-makers but also signaled his determination to reclaim a spot on the national radar.
