Prithvi Shaw Joins Maharashtra for Upcoming Domestic Season

Mumbai: In a major shift in the Indian domestic cricket landscape, former Mumbai opener Prithvi Shaw has officially joined the Maharashtra cricket team for the upcoming season, ending his long-standing association with Mumbai. The Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) made the announcement on Monday, calling it a “strategic move” that could reshape the domestic cricketing narrative.

Shaw, once hailed as the next big thing in Indian cricket, had requested a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Mumbai Cricket Association last month. The request was approved by the managing committee after Shaw was dropped from Mumbai’s red-ball squad due to fitness and disciplinary issues. His last appearance for Mumbai was in the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy final against Madhya Pradesh.

Confirming the development, the MCA released a statement:

“International cricketer and top-order aggressive Indian batsman Prithvi Shaw has officially parted ways with the Mumbai Cricket Association and will represent the Maharashtra Cricket Association in the upcoming domestic season.”

The association further added that Shaw’s inclusion is being seen as a significant boost to Maharashtra’s already talented squad, which features players like Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ankit Bawne, Rahul Tripathi, Mukesh Choudhary, and Rajneesh Gurbani.

MCA President Rohit Pawar commented on the acquisition:

“Prithvi’s presence will not only strengthen our batting lineup but also provide invaluable guidance to younger players through his international and IPL experience.”

Shaw, who has represented India in all three formats, expressed optimism about the move:

“At this stage in my career, I believe joining the Maharashtra team will help me grow as a cricketer. I will always remain grateful to the Mumbai Cricket Association for the opportunities and support over the years.”

With a fresh start and a renewed focus, this move could well pave the way for Shaw’s dream comeback to the Indian national team. All eyes will now be on how he performs in the new colors — and whether this bold transition becomes the turning point in his career.
