Prime Minister Narendra Modi meets with senior Kuwaiti officials

Kuwait: Prime Minister Narendra Modi began his historic visit to Kuwait with a grand ceremonial reception and guard of honor at the Bayan Palace on Sunday. This visit marks a significant moment in India-Kuwait relations, as Modi is the first Indian Prime Minister to visit Kuwait in 43 years, with the last visit being by Indira Gandhi in 1981.

During his discussions with Kuwaiti Emir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the focus was on revitalizing bilateral ties, particularly in key areas such as commerce, investment, and energy. Modi also met with the Crown Prince, Sheikh Sabah Al-Khalid Al-Sabah, underscoring the importance of strengthening relations in defense and other critical sectors.

Honored with Kuwait’s Highest Civilian Award

In recognition of his efforts to enhance India-Kuwait relations, Modi was bestowed with the Order of Mubarak Al-Kabeer, Kuwait’s highest civilian honor. This accolade, presented at the Bayan Palace by Emir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al Sabah, highlights Modi’s contributions to fostering stronger diplomatic and economic ties. The award marks the 20th foreign honor conferred upon the Indian Prime Minister.

Visit to the Gulf Spic Labour Camp

In a touching gesture, Modi visited the Gulf Spic Labour Camp, where he interacted with Indian workers, acknowledging their hard work and dedication. Addressing the laborers, Modi said, “Do you put forth a lot of effort for your family? I have to put in a little more labor because I also work for my family, which consists of 140 crore people.” His interaction highlighted the vital role of the Indian diaspora in strengthening the socio-economic fabric of both nations.

A New Chapter in Bilateral Relations

India is one of Kuwait’s principal trading partners, and this visit aims to solidify economic cooperation and explore new avenues of collaboration.
