Lucknow: President Droupadi Murmu on Friday urged the nation’s youth to embrace service, discipline and environmental responsibility as driving forces for building a developed India. She was addressing the closing ceremony of the Diamond Jubilee celebrations and the 19th National Jamboree of Bharat Scouts and Guides, where over 35,000 young participants from across India and 2,000 scouts and guides from 25 countries took part.
Calling youth the “strength of the nation,” President Murmu said that if young people adopt the Scouts and Guides’ principle of being “friends of nature,” India would move toward a greener and happier future. She reminded the gathering that youth are not only the architects of the nation’s progress, but also guardians of its cultural heritage. “Just as one lamp lights many others, a strong and sensitive individual can empower countless people,” she said, expressing confidence that the youth will channel their skills toward nation-building.
The President highlighted that India now has over 6.3 million Scouts and Guides, making it one of the largest such organisations globally, with more than 2.5 million girl guides. She praised the organisation for instilling discipline, leadership and service, especially during crises such as natural disasters and the pandemic. “National unity is strengthened when young people from different cultures train together, learning teamwork, respect and brotherhood,” she added.
Emphasizing the motto “Be Prepared,” President Murmu urged youths to equip themselves with communication, problem-solving and leadership skills to face future challenges. She welcomed the Jamboree’s “green initiatives,” including waste segregation and a plastic-free venue, calling it an exemplary step in environmental awareness. She also acknowledged government initiatives like Mera Yuva, aimed at empowering youth and channeling their energy toward constructive national goals.
Governor Anandiben Patel, in her address, noted that the Jamboree embodied Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of youth as the nation’s driving force. She said Scouts and Guides not only impart skills but also inculcate compassion, courage and humanity—values vital in a rapidly changing world. “Service is the essence of Indian culture, and through service, a new India will take shape,” she remarked.

The event was attended by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Mizoram Chief Minister P. Laldouhoma, Deputy CMs Keshav Prasad Maurya and Brajesh Pathak, and senior leaders of the Bharat Scouts and Guides. The President released a commemorative souvenir, while the Governor unveiled the Jamboree magazine.
The ceremony featured a vibrant cultural programme showcasing martial arts, traditional performances and skill demonstrations by Scouts and Guides from various states. Earlier, President Murmu took the salute at the grand march-past and applauded the enthusiasm of participants.
With its message of unity, service and youth empowerment, the Jamboree concluded on a high note, reinforcing the role of young Indians in shaping a stronger, greener and more developed nation.
