President Droupadi Murmu Inaugurates Key Infrastructure at Mahayogi Gorakhnath University, Lays Foundation for Girls’ Hostel in Gorakhpur

Gorakhpur — President of India,  Droupadi Murmu, inaugurated the newly constructed auditorium, academic building, and Panchakarma Centre at Mahayogi Gorakhnath University in Gorakhpur. She also laid the foundation stone for a new girls’ hostel, marking a significant step toward promoting higher education and wellness in eastern Uttar Pradesh.

The event was attended by the Governor of Uttar Pradesh,  Anandiben Patel, and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, who welcomed the President and lauded her journey as an inspiring symbol of strength and leadership.

On this occasion, President Murmu also unveiled the university’s official ‘Formulary’ and the first edition of its policy document ‘Sankalpasiddhi – M.G.U.G. Policy Compendium 1.0’. She also participated in a plantation drive under the “One Tree for Mother” campaign by planting a sapling on the university premises.

In her address, the President praised Mahayogi Gorakhnath University as a shining offshoot of the revered Shri Gorakhnath Temple tradition. She emphasized the transformative power of Panchakarma in Ayurvedic treatment, citing its efficacy in curing chronic illnesses, and expressed confidence that the newly inaugurated facilities would further enhance academic excellence and healthcare outreach in the region.

“The new girls’ hostel will encourage more young women to pursue higher education. Safe accommodation is crucial for their educational journey, and this initiative will remove a significant barrier for many,” President Murmu stated.

She noted that under the National Education Policy 2020, private institutions with a spirit of public service play an essential role. “This is the first private university contributing meaningfully to higher education in the Gorakhpur region,” she added, appreciating the role of the Gorakshpeeth and Maharana Pratap Shiksha Parishad in the university’s development.

The President also remarked that students of Mahayogi Gorakhnath University are expected to not only excel in professional education but also embody spiritual values and patriotism. The institution, she said, carries forward the legacy of Mahants Digvijaynath and Avaidyanath and has achieved remarkable growth within just four years, becoming a hub of higher and employment-oriented education in eastern UP.

Highlighting the integrated approach of the university in healthcare, President Murmu said that the institution offers both allopathic and Ayurvedic education and treatment. She shared that the 650-bed Gorakhnath Medical College and Hospital will soon expand into an 1,800-bed facility. The Ayurvedic wing currently has 200 beds and is gaining prominence in traditional healing.

The President further stated that Mahayogi Gorakhnath University is also expanding its footprint in agricultural research, rural development, entrepreneurship, and botanical research in collaboration with national and international institutions. “When Purvanchal becomes healthier and more educated, all of Uttar Pradesh will progress, and with it, India will set new benchmarks of development,” she concluded.

Governor and CM Laud University’s Vision

Governor Anandiben Patel called Gorakhpur a sacred land that has long been a center of spiritual and social transformation. “This region is now emerging as a hub of education, health, and yoga,” she noted, adding that the projects inaugurated today are concrete steps toward empowerment and well-being.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath welcomed the President and hailed her as “a living inspiration for India’s women.” He praised her journey from humble beginnings to the highest constitutional post in the country. “Despite all adversities, she never allowed her personal challenges to hinder her service to the nation,” he said.

CM Yogi highlighted that the university, which operates under the guidance of the Gorakshpeeth and the Maharana Pratap Shiksha Parishad, is steadily growing into a multi-disciplinary institution. It offers courses in allopathy, Ayurveda, nursing, pharmacy, paramedical sciences, and agriculture, becoming a center of excellence in eastern Uttar Pradesh.

He also thanked the Gallant India Group for its support in constructing the auditorium and Panchakarma Centre, emphasizing the global acceptance and growing importance of Panchakarma as a specialized detoxification therapy.

A Tradition of Educational Excellence

Chief Minister Yogi also acknowledged the legacy of the Maharana Pratap Shiksha Parishad, which was founded in 1932 by Mahant Digvijaynath. The Parishad and Gorakshpeeth played a pivotal role in establishing the first university in post-independence Uttar Pradesh, which later became the prestigious Gorakhpur University.

“Today’s inauguration and foundation events are a continuation of this tradition,” he said, reiterating the state’s commitment to building modern institutions grounded in cultural and spiritual heritage.

The event was also attended by UP Cabinet Ministers Swatantra Dev Singh (Jal Shakti), Surya Pratap Shahi (Agriculture), and Sanjay Nishad (Fisheries), along with Vice Chancellor Dr. Surinder Singh, faculty members, and Gallant India Chairman Chandraprakash Agarwal.
