Preparations in Full Swing for Open Masters Games Abu Dhabi 2026

Qatar: The Supreme Organising Committee of the Open Masters Games Abu Dhabi 2026 has confirmed that preparations for the region’s biggest multisport event are progressing steadily, with the Sponsors’ Summit scheduled for September 17. This comes after successful engagements with UAE sports federations and a strong presence at the Abu Dhabi International Hunting and Equestrian Exhibition (ADIHEX).

“The Open Masters Games Abu Dhabi 2026 is more than just a sporting event; it’s a vibrant community initiative created to inspire active lifestyles, a passion for sport, and healthy living,” said Aref Hamad Al Awani, Secretary-General of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council.

Set to take place from February 6–15, 2026, the Games will be the first Masters event hosted in the Middle East. Organisers expect over 25,000 athletes from more than 100 countries competing across 30+ sports, including six traditional Emirati disciplines that reflect the UAE’s cultural heritage.

Mainstream sports include football, basketball, athletics, swimming, cycling, tennis, squash, golf, badminton, judo, karate, rugby, cricket, wrestling, and more. Heritage sports such as falconry, camel racing, dhow sailing, endurance horse racing, Al Taba, and traditional diving will also feature prominently.

Competitions will be spread across 20+ world-class venues in Abu Dhabi, including Mubadala Arena, Hudayriyat Island, Emirates Palace, Abu Dhabi Cricket and Sports Hub, Khalifa International Bowling Centre, ADNEC, and Al Ain Equestrian, Golf and Shooting Club.

The event is designed to promote healthy ageing, inclusivity, and cross-generational cultural exchange, with opportunities for para-athletes to participate in 18 adapted sports.

Volunteer registration, launched in July in partnership with the Emirates Foundation, remains open to students, professionals, and sports enthusiasts eager to contribute. Organisers say the program offers a unique opportunity to create a lasting social impact.

Adding to the anticipation, the official Open Masters Games wristband was unveiled at ADIHEX. Symbolising unity and spirit, the wristband will accompany both athletes and spectators throughout the build-up and during the event.

The Games are expected to strengthen Abu Dhabi’s position as a premier global sports destination, combining international competition with the UAE’s deep cultural identity.
